Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal is eyeing a maximum salary contract as he enters free-agency this summer.

The 22-year-old four-year pro has just finished the fourth year of his five-season, $18.6 million rookie deal with Washington. It comes with a club option at the end of the 2015-2016 season which makes him a restricted free agent come July 1.

This means that all the other NBA teams can offer Beal a deal once the free-agency period starts and the Wizards will have 72 hours to match any offers given to the former Florida Gators standout or else let him go.

ESPN reported that Beal is "seeking a max contract" and that NBA players with zero to six years of tenure in the league can receive a max annual salary of $21.6 million in the 2016-2017 season.

Since he is a restricted free agent, the Wizards is the only team that can offer him the richest and longest possible contract while the others can only bid a four-year deal at a lower amount.

"A max five-year contract from the Wizards would pay Beal roughly $124.2 million, while a four-year offer sheet from another team will come in at $92.2 million," the report noted.

That is a huge advantage for Washington if they really want to re-sign their starting two guard, although it was mentioned that getting Beal at such a high cost might be too risky as he had been injury-prone throughout his professional career.

Beal was adamant about staying in Washington, though, but he said that it should be at the right price.

"I want to be valued the right way," said Beal, via the Washington Post. "I feel like I'm a max player and that's what I'm looking for."

"If Washington can't meet that requirement then I may be thinking elsewhere. I'm pretty sure that they probably won't (let me go). At the end of the day, that's where I want to be. I think a deal will probably get done but you just never know," he added.
