Satellite cable provider Dish Network has announced that the miniscule HopperGo is now ready for shipping. The HopperGo was first introduced to the public back in January at the Consumer Electronics Show. The device is a 64GB USB drive with a built-in wireless access point and can be connected to the Dish Hopper 2 or the Dish Hopper 3.

Dish claims that the HopperGo can store up to 100 hours' worth of TV programming. The device can allegedly also run for up to four hours on a single charge and its contents can be streamed via the Dish Anywhere app.

Essentially, the Dish HopperGo is a portable DVR. What makes it special is that it creates its own private network, which means no Internet connection is needed for it to function, according to Engadget. Moreover, it can stream to up to five iOS or Android devices at the same time via the Dish Anywhere app.

The device is somewhat similar to media drives that use Wi-Fi signals to function. Due to its portability, tech analysts have said that it would fit well with users who constantly travel and still want to keep updated about their favorite TV shows. The Dish HopperGo can also serve as a backup for some video files thanks to its 64GB storage space.

Accessing files stored on the Dish HopperGo is relatively easy since it does not require Internet connection. It is very useful for trips where cellular or Wi-Fi networks are not readily available.

Many tech analyst say that the only downside of the Dish HopperGo is its relatively short battery life. However, four hours is still enough to play a couple of movies or a few episode of the user's TV shows. Users can also load the Dish HopperGo with other media, like their own recorded videos or photographs.

The Dish HopperGo costs $99 and unlike other peripherals to satellite cable subscriptions it does not require a monthly fee, according to Tech Crunch.
