A Facebook user leaked a supposed image of the next Moto G's packaging, suggesting that the device will be named Moto G or the new Moto G as shown on the box's branding. The image's authenticity is not confirmed but if it is real, the Moto G2 has been shipped to India already, with over 70,000 Moto G XT1068 units listed on Indian import and export website Zauba. The said Moto G2 units were shipped from China to Bangalore priced at Rs.10,640 each on Zauba. The declared values are for customs purposes and may significantly change to its actual market price.

Both Moto G 4G LTE and Moto G2 have the same quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Cortex-A7 processor at 1.2 GHz. Both also have 1 GB of RAM. However, while the Moto G 4G LTE runs an upgradable Android 4.4.2 KitKat, the Moto G2 is expected to run Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. The Moto G phone has an 8 GB internal storage while the Moto G2 is expected to have 8 GB and 16 GB internal storage with microSD card support. Moto G 2013 does not come with expandable memory capacity.

The Moto G has a 4.5-inch IPS LCD display with 720 x 1280 pixels screen resolution while the Moto G2 will supposedly have a 5-inch display with the same resolution. The Moto G features a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3 megapixel front camera while the Moto G2 will have an 8 megapixel rear camera unit with LED flash and 2 megapixel front camera.
