Reigning women's singles world No. 1, Carolina Marin of Spain, has pulled out from the 2016 Xiamen Air Australian Badminton Open citing "discomfort" suffered while competing in the recently concluded BCA Indonesia Open in Jakarta, Indonesia.
"Back in Spain and I won't play in Australia! Recuperation and training. I will not play Australia Open! Sorry," the 22-year-oldHuelva-native tweeted on Monday.

The ruling back-to-back World Championship winner also added that she will be heading back to Madrid in order to recover and make preparations for the upcoming Olympics, which she considered as the most important tournament. The Olympics will be taking place in Rio de Janeiro this coming August.
Marin, who will be representing the country of Spain in the 2016 Summer Olympics, was shocked by China's current world No. 3, Wang Yihan, in the semifinal round of Indonesia Open last Saturday.
The Chinese badminton ace emerged as the winner after a 16-21, 21-11, 21-17 game that lasted an hour and 18 minutes. Yihan went on to faced the tournament's eventual champion, current world No. 9, Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan.
The Spanish top shuttler has 19 individual titles under her belt, with the European Championships that was held in La Roche-sur-Yon, France in May this year as her latest career achievement. Marin defeated the 22-year-old Kirsty Gilmour of Scotland in two straight sets 21-12, 21-18 to bag the prestigious European crown.
The ruling world No. 1 has garnered a total of 85,180 points in 15 tournaments she has competed in and has maintained a professional record of 241 wins and 75 losses.
Besides Marin, China's top women's doubles pairs Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei and Luo Ying/Luo Yu, and last week's Indonesia Open mixed doubles champions Xu Chen/Ma Jin also pulled out from the US$750,000 Australian Super Series tournament.
De nuevo por España y no jugaré en Australia! A recuperarse y entrenar
