After claiming his sixth Indonesia Open crown last Saturday, the Badminton World Federation World No.1 Lee Chong Wei has reportedly withdrawn for the 2016 World Super Series XiamenAir Australian Badminton Open 2016 at the last minute.

In the recently concluded Jakarta-based World SuperSeries Premier championships, Chong Wei outlasted current world No. 5, Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark, with a 17-21, 21-19, 21-17 comeback victory in a game that lasted for 70 minutes, earning him a maximum 11,000 points to reclaim the top spot in the BWF World Rankings.

It was the Malaysian shuttler's fourth title this season. The four-time BWF Player of the Year Award recipient won the Malaysia Masters in January and the Malaysia Super Series Premier last April.

Chong Wei was also crowned the victor of the Asian Championships that took place in Wuhan, China last month before taking home the Indonesia Open title recently.

The badminton ace, who is looking to win his first Olympic gold medal in the coming 2016 Rio Games, has won two silver medals in two previous Olympic Games; Beijing (2008) and London (2012). The leading quadrennial international sporting events will commence on August 5 and will run through August 21 this year.

South Korea's qualifier and world No. 84 Heo Kwang Hee will replace the Kuala Lumpur-based badminton star in the first round match showdown against Indonesia's Jonatan Christie, who defeated world No. 3, Lin Dan of China, to reach the semifinal stage of the Indonesia Open.

In addtion to Chong Wei, the Sydney-based badminton tournament has lost some serious star power following the pre-tournament withdrawal of several top shuttlers including Lin Dan, Carolina Marin, Jan Jorgensen and Viktor Axelsen of Denmark.

The XiameAir Australian Badminton Open offers a top prize of $750,000 and will run from June 7 to June 12 at the Sports Centre in Sydney.
