It's official! The Badminton World Federation released the updated list of the sport's world rankings on Thursday and Malaysian badminton star Lee Chong Wei has reclaimed the world No. 1 spot.

Lee is now the current highest-ranked men's single badminton player in the world, surpassing China's Chen Long with 94,453 ranking points after winning his sixth Indonesia Open last week in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Kuala Lumpur-native secured a margin of 5,509 points as the former frontrunner Chen, who pulled out of the Jakarta-based tournament, garnered a total of 88,944 ranking points in 14 tournaments that he participated in.

The World No. 1 ranking will surely be a great morale booster for the two-time Asian champion, who is aiming for Malaysia's first ever Olympic gold medal in the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympics.

Lee had the chance to bring the long-awaited glory to his country in 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London but his hopes were shattered by China's Lin Dan, who defeated the Malaysian badminton ace on both occasions, leaving him with two silver medals.

"Honestly, I had never imagined I could return to the world No. 1 after the doping incident. I was aiming for top four that was it. However, the No. 1 ranking is definitely a big confidence boost for me," Lee said.

The 33-year-old lost his world No. 1 ranking during his backdated eight-month doping ban from 2014 to 2015. His long absence from the sport saw his ranking drop significantly to world No. 180.

After serving his suspension, Lee returned to play professional badminton with the Sudirman Cup in May 2015. The four-time BWF Player of the Year winner started his 2016 campaign by winning his fifth Malaysia Masters title in January, the Malaysia Open and Badminton Asia Championships in April before lifting the Indonesia Open trophy earlier this month.

The Malaysian national recently pulled out from the Australia Open this week and currently undergoing routine physiotherapy.
