(Photo : YouTube) Microsoft has corrected an error that made Fallout 4 and its DLCs appear as free items on the XBox Store.

A recent pricing error brought joy to several gamers when the Xbox One version of the popular Fallout 4 along with its DLCs were listed for free. The free download went on for a period on the official Xbox Store. The game's developer, Bethesda Softworks, claims to have no idea about how the glitch happened.

In June, reports surfaced the base Fallout 4 game, along with its expansions Automation, Far Harbor, and Wasteland Workshop were all prized $0 on the Xbox store. The pricing error quickly went viral amassing sparking a wave of download requests for the game.

Gamers, tech analysts, and even Bethesda marketing vice president Peter Hines are not clear about how the pricing error started in the first place.

"No idea. Not my platform. Bug/hiccup. They'll undo it," Hines wrote on Twitter.

Several hours after the bug was discovered, Microsoft returned the standard price for the Fallout 4 along with all of its DLCs. Despite this, the tech giant is yet to offer an explanation as to how the glitch began.

Following the fix, gamers who purchased the game for $0.00 will not get it after all. To compensate gamers for the inconvenience, Microsoft is giving out $10 codes which can be redeemed by the end of the month.

In a message explaining the situation, Microsoft said, "Our pricing error on Fallout 4 has been fixed, and your free download will no longer work. For the inconvenience, we will deposit $10 by the end of June in your Microsoft Account. This expires in one year from the time it was deposited."

In other related Fallout 4 news, Bethesda Softworks recently shared its roadmap for mod support. The developer is expected to make some Fallout-related announcement at this year's E3 Conference.
