Speaking at WWDC, Apple's Craig Federighi announced that they're introducing a host of features with the new operating system.

MacOS Sierra's auto-unlock feature allows users to automatically unlock their Mac when their iPhone or Apple Watch is close by. The universal clipboard feature enables seamless copying and pasting across across iOS and macOS.

The new operating system will include another feature called optimized storage, which cleans up old files and sends them to the iCloud. This helps to clear up local storage and carry out various sweeps such as automatic clearing of web history.

The OS also includes support for Apple Pay, through which users can authenticate their payments on the Mac using their iPhone or Apple Watch. The company also announced the introduction of Safari-like tabs to all their desktop apps.

The new operating system is also more conducive for a clutter-free desktop. Its new picture-in-picture functionality allows for smoother transition between various apps.

The developer preview for the new macOS operating system has already been released while the public beta version will be made available in July.
