The opening game of the National Football League (NFL) Washington Redskins was one full of costly mistakes and errors.

For the opening game of the Redskins, former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL Offensive Rookie of the year for 2012, Robert Griffin III lead his team against J.J. Watt and the Houston Texans.

While the Redskins possess two superstar wide receivers, a Pro Bowl left tackle, a top tier running back, and a highly ranked quarterback, they were unable to come together for their opening game.

For most of the first quarter, neither team was tied with no points on the board. The tie was broken during the second quarter with a touchdown run by Darrel Young.

However, instead of leading the game at 7-0, their extra point was deflected by Watt's arm.

Another special teams mistake occurred, when the Redskins were trailing 7-6. Tress Way, rookie and kicker, had his punt blocked by Alfred Blue. Blue retrieve the ball and returned it five yards for a touchdown.

Later in the game, the Redskins were poised to score, with the team standing at the Texans' seven yard line.

After the snap, Griffin tripped on a lineman's foot and was unsuccessful with his handoff to Alfred Morris. It was a fumble that was recovered by Watt.

The Redskins' next drive saw yet another fumble. Tight end Niles Paul caught a 48-yard pass from Griffin. However, he was not able to keep the ball as D.J. Swearinger pressured for another fumble.

Watt proved too much for the Redskins, having two tackles and a quarterback sack, including a blocked extra point, a batted pass, and a fumble recovery.

The game also saw injuries from the Redskins. Tight end Jordan Reed suffered a left hamstring injury, while nose tackle Barry Cofield injured his ankle.

The Redskins will be meeting the Jacksonville Jaguars next.

"No one wants to go 0-2," said Griffin about their upcoming game.
