The top entertainment producer in South Korea is partnering with Chinese film outfits, intending to capture the huge market and heading to become the world's largest production company.

CJ E&M announced that a series of China co-production movies would hit cinemas soon, including the remake of the box-office action comedy Veteran.

Also, a re-creation of Kang Je-gyu's Salut d'Amour will be produced and helmed by Hong Kong's top director Eric Tsang. The film centers on the love story of two senior citizens.

The remake of Veteran, Korea's third highest-grossing movie of all time, will include the performance of Sun Honglei. The original lead character was portrayed by Hwang Jung-min.

According to Sun, the movie industry "is being increasingly globalized," and that is why productions like this have become possible.

Veteran and Salut d'Amour are now in preproduction and are slated to be shown at cinemas in 2017.

Joining the two movies in the lineup is Kung Fu Robot, an original movie from Korean director JK Youn.

The sci-fi comedy is set in the near future and tells the story of a cleaning robot, which eventually masters martial arts to help humans fight evil. CJ Entertainment will collaborate with Dexter Studio and China's Wanda Pictures to produce the film.

Youn is excited to work on this project since this is his first time to direct a film in China.

"I will work as if I am about to make my directorial debut," Youn said.

Another Ryoo Seung-wan production, Gunhamdo, will most likely be jointly released in South Korea and China. The period drama - top-billed by Hwang Jung-min, Song Joong-ki, and So Ji-sub - tells the story of 400 Koreans forced into labor on a remote island and their plight to regain freedom.

Jeong Tae-sung, head of CJ E&M's film division said that the aim of these productions is not only success in China and Korea but also to "sweep the global market."
