After easily swatting aside the Netherlands with a 3-0 sweep at the Hong Kong Coliseum last night, the Asian giants once again demonstrated their supremacy, as they claimed the national team's eighth consecutive victory at the expense of the Germans. The Chinese spikers have garnered 23 points while only dropping three sets in eight matches played.
China kept their hold on the top of the tournament's Group 1 standings, sustaining their lead over the United States, Russia and Brazil. The victory also marked the 19th Chinese women's over the Germans in their 20 official encounters in the annual sporting event.
PRC's Liu Xiaotong finished the match with a game-high 18 points (12 spikes, 1 block, 5 serves), while the 21-year-old, 6-foot-3 tall Louisa Lippmann added to her team-best 100 points for the tournament by scoring a German-high 13 points. The Germans remain winless in the tournament.
"We had a different starting lineup in today's match. The defense was good, despite several ups and downs during the match. We hope our players will have a more consistent performance in tomorrow's match," China's Head Coach Lang Ping said after the match.
China, which currently ranks No. 2 in the world, will be facing the reigning tournament's champion United States on Sunday. The American spikers are currently No. 1 in the world rankings, and they are presently second in the tournament standings, with a 7-1 record and 21 points. The Chinese got the better of the Americans in their initial encounter last June 12 in Ningbo.
