Brazilian International Hulk Arrives in Shanghai to Complete his Record-Breaking Move to Shanghai SIPG

Brazilian forward Hulk arrived in Shanghai on Wednesday ahead of his record-breaking move to Shanghai SIPG. He will reportedly undergo medical tests and complete other formalities before being officially unveiled to SIPG fans and Chinese media.

At the Shanghai airport, the Brazilian forward was greeted by thousands of diehard SIPG fans, who mobbed him for autographs and photos.

Shanghai SIPG has paid approximately € 55 million ($61 million) to Russian club Zenit St. Petersburg to secure the services of the Brazilian national. The deal set a new Chinese football transfer record, breaking the previous record of € 50-million euro ($ 55 billion) set by Jiangsu Suning to secure Hulk's Brazilian counterpart Alex Teixeira from Shakhtar Donetsk.

"Zenit have reached a preliminary agreement with Shanghai SIPG concerning the transfer of Hulk, and on Wednesday the player will undergo a medical," Zenit press officer Dmitri Zimmerman told a sports daily Sports Express. "Zenit will receive around €56 million, while a further €2 million could be added to the total price."     

Hulk was the top scorer in the Russian Premier League in the 2014-15 season, scoring 15 goals. The Brazilin national, whose real name is Givanildo Vieira de Sousa, is widely hailed as one of the most dangerous strikers in European football.           

As per the rules, Chinese Super League Clubs are not allowed to have more than five foreign players on a squad. Shanghai SIPG, which is managed by ex-England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, already has five foreign players on his squad - Asamoah Gyan, Elkeson, Jean Evrard Kouassi, Dario Conca, and Kim Ju-Yung.

It is still not known which foreign player Hulk will replace. Shanghai SIPG are currently fourth in Chinese Super League.
