Kiko Mizuhara Issues Public Apology to China in Weibo Video

Japanese-American model and actress Kiko Mizuhara issued a public apology via a video posted on Weibo on Friday, July 15, after she was accused of being "anti-China" by Chinese netizens, according to AllKpop.

Chinese netizens allegedly threatened to boycott director Zhao Wei's upcoming film which stars Mizuhara, following accusations that the actress is "anti-China."
The speculations about Mizuhara's political stance on China started from after she 'liked' a photo posted by her friend on Instagram. The post shows a distant picture of the Tiananmen Square with a guy pointing a dirty finger towards it, according to Focus Taiwan.
Her action triggered a backlash from Chinese netizens, who accused her of inciting an anti-China movement. Due to this, Mizuhara posted a video on her Weibo page to apologize to citizens of China.
"I would like to sincerely apologize to everyone in China and clarify a few things in this video," the actress said in the clip.
Mizuhara admitted to liking the photo on Instagram, but later explained that she only did so to encourage her friend who posted the photo to use social media more. She claims to have unliked the photo after she realized its implications.
Furthermore, the actress also apologized after being accused of promoting war. These speculations began after she posed in front of a Rising Sun flag, a symbol which closely relates to Japanese imperialism.
Mizuhara stressed that she did not pose for any photo at Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine, a site which honors the country's war dead.
"I am a supporter for world peace and definitely anti-war," Mizuhara stated in her video.
The actress also expressed her admiration for the Chinese culture, stating that she has learned a lot about through many close Chinese friends.
