Guizhou Senhang Upsets Anhui Wenyi in 22nd Round of Chinese National Basketball League

Blue-chip squad Anhui Wenyi's winning streak has finally come to an end after they suffered a 125-120 upset loss to the fourth-rankedGuizhou Senhang on Sunday in the 22nd round of the Chinese National Basketball League (NBL).

With the defeat, Anhui snapped the season's longest winning streak of the Chinese minor league with 16 successive games won.  It was the team's third loss of the tournament in 22 matches played this season. Anhui currently sits on the second spot of the league's team standings, one victory behind table leader Shaanxi Xinda Wolves.

On the other hand, Guizhou improved to 13-9 and remains in fourth place in the 14-team league. They currently share the spot with Guangxi Rhinos and Jiangsu Hualan with the same win-loss record.

According to Asia-Basket, former NBA D-League player Brandon Costner led the winning team with a remarkable double-double game performance of 33 points and 10 rebounds. The former North Carolina State University player went 11 for 23 from the field including six treys from beyond the arc region in 45 minutes of playing.

American forward Steven Burtt added 31 points and nine rebounds while local player Xu Liu chipped in 18 points. MingHao Li and Mingfan Yan had 14 points each for Guizhou.

Guizhou's reserve players made the big difference in the game after 31-16 bench points. Both teams committed 10 turnovers with Anhui edging the victors in the rebound department 45-39.

According to NowGoal, Anhui ended the first half of the game with a big 26-point lead 75-49. However, the winning team stormed the opposing team with a remarkable 43-23 third quarter outburst to narrow the gap within six 98-92 entering the final period of the game.

Riding on a big momentum shift, Guizhou continued to dominate and contain Anhui in the final twelve minutes of the game with a 33-22 run to seal the upset.
