Basketball News: Former NBA Player Esteban Batista to Play for North Control Beijing in China

Chinese Basketball Association team North Control Beijing has reportedly agreed to terms with former Uruguayan NBA player Esteban Batista to play for the club in the upcoming 2016-17 season of the professional league, Asia-Basket reported.

The 32-year-old native of Monteviedo, Uruguay last played for the Italian professional basketball team EA7 Emporio Armani Milano of the Lega Basket Serie A. Batista played 25 official games with the Italian side and averaged 9.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest. He helped the Giorgio Armani-owned club to win the league title last season.
The 6-foot-10 tall American forward-center is no stranger to the Chinese league. Batista played in China in 2015 with the Fly Dragons for a total of 37 matches averaging 25.7 points and 12.6 boards per outing. He led the Chinese professional team to a 15th place finish, with a 13-25 win-loss record.
Batista began his professional basketball career in the Uruguayan Basketball League in the year 2001 for Club Atletico Welcome. He then transferred to Liga Espanola de Baloncesto (LED), a second division basketball league in Spain in 2003, playing for the team of Baloncesto Pozuelo.
The Atlanta Hawks signed Batista in September 2005, becoming the first ever Uruguayan to play in the NBA. According to the league's official website, during his stint with the Hawks, he averaged 1.7 points and 2.5 rebounds in 8.2 minutes of playing time per game. Batista appeared in a total of 70 official games in his two seasons with the Tony Ressler-owned team.
His career has allowed him to visit four different continents of the world while he played in eight different countries. Batista tasted the life as pro basketball player in Europe, Asia, Latin America and North America.
Batista has played in Argentina (Libertad Sunchales), Chile, Greece, Israel (Maccabi Fox Tel-Aviv), Russia (Zenit), Turkey (Anadolu Efes and Pinar Karsiyaka) and Spain (Laboral Kutxa and Baloncesto Fuenlabrada).
