Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) team Shanghai Sharks has reportedly signed the 2016 NBA Draft 16th overall pick Guerschon Yabusele to play for the club in the upcoming 2016-17 season.

Yabusele, 21, was selected by the Eastern Conference team Boston Celtics in the last month's draft night. However, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, the native of Dreux, France will be stashed by the Celtics and spend at least a season overseas without taking up a roster spot in the 17-time NBA champion team.

The 6-foot-7-inch power forward is said to have agreed to a one-year deal with the Yao Ming-owned professional basketball club Shanghai Sharks. The deal is believed to have a value of USD 1.5 million, with bonuses next season. The Boston, Massachusetts-based team will still hold the NBA rights to the Frenchman, who showed promise in the NBA Summer League, averaging 8.2 points and six rebounds in eight games.

According to Asia-Basket, Yabusele played for the Chorale Roanne Basket of the LNB Pro B, a second-tier level men's professional basketball in France in the 2014-15 season. He averaged 8.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 23.1 minutes of playing time in 36 official games that he played.

Yabusele played with Rouen Métropole Basket of France top league, the LNB Pro A in the 2015-16 season. He played 34 matches with the team while registering averages of 11.5 points, 6.8 boards, 1.1 dimes and 1.1 steals per contest.

Last year, he represented France at the European Championships U20 in Lignano Sabbiadoro in Italy and reached the semifinal round of the tournament. In the nine matches that he appeared during the basketball event, Yabusele averaged 9.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.3 blocked shots while shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 63.3 percent from the foul line.
