Middling team Liaoning Whowin FC pulled off an impressive 3-1 upset over third-placed squad Shanghai SIPG FC in a 2016 Chinese Super League season game held at the Shenyang Olympic Sports Center Stadium last Saturday.

Both teams are having mercurial performances in the past few weeks as either one cannot seem to string consecutive wins. With the win, Liaoning snapped their two-game winless spell while SIPG alternated winning and losing in their last four matches.

Ivorian striker Jean Evrard Kouassi actually started the scoring for the Massive during the match as he slotted in Brazilian striker Elkeson's assist at the 32nd minute, as per Soccerway. Head coach Sven-Göran Eriksson's team were then able to keep the one-point lead into the halftime break.

However, the Northeast Tigers scored three straight goals after the restart to pull off the come-from-behind victory, Shanghai Daily reported.

Zambian import James Chamanga spearheaded the Whowin comeback with the equalizer at the 53rd minute off a pass from Nigerian forward Anthony Ujah.

Ujah made another pass, this time to local winger Sun Shilin, to give head coach Ma Lin's side a 2-1 lead at the 65th. It was Ujah time to score two minutes later when he directed a pass from Chamanga towards SIPG goalkeeper Yan Junling's net to make it a 3-1 count.

The Red Eagles still missed the services of newly-acquired Brazilian forward Hulk, who after being snagged by SIPG for a Chinese transfer record of €55 million was immediately injured during his first game with the club four matchdays ago.

Hulk scored the opening goal at the ninth minute of their 5-0 victory over Henan Jianye, but he went down with a pulled left leg muscle at the 21st and was stretchered off the pitch. He never came back in for SIPG since then.

Meanwhile, Liaoning remained at the ninth spot of the current China top flight table with 11 games left in their current campaign. The team is only six points above the bottom two relegation area, though, and so they need to continue to find victories as the 2016 CSL season slowly enters its home stretch.
