Just like the rest of the world, China is charmed by the magic of Virtual Reality. Since most high-end VR headsets are quite expensive for the average user, a new industry is booming in the country: virtual reality arcades.
Shanghai reportedly has about 25 virtual reality arcades, and this number is growing. In an interview with Tech Node, a Chinese customer at one of the more popular VR cafes said, "When I experienced VR for the first time, I was very frightened, but it was also very fun. I think it's worth coming to a VR arcade to play VR games. I'm even thinking of buying one and playing at home."

One of the VR cafes, Chuyu VR Café, reportedly earns around $7,500 monthly. These virtual reality cafes are slowly turning into a meeting point for students, as well as curious users who wanted to have a taste of the virtual reality experience.
China is slowly opening its gates to fledgling technologies like virtual reality.
Due to unprecedented demands but with limited resources, virtual reality arcades have been forced to impose a 30-minute maximum rule for each user without the chance of getting a second turn. This has led to complaints from some users claiming that the 30-minute limit is too short to fully immerse into the virtual reality world.
Although it seems like virtual reality arcades are a lucrative business, most operators claim that the cost of operation is too high, especially with the rent and the cost of hardware. Regardless, the growing number of cafes is evidence that due to excessive demands, the virtual reality café business in China will continue to thrive.
