Hebei China Fortune forward Gervinho was shown the red card after what seemed like a brutal groin stamping on Henan Jianye midfielder Yang Kuo during their Chinese Super League game last Sunday at the Zhengzhou Hanghai Stadium.
With the punishment, the 29-year-old Ivory Coast international will be suspended in their home game against defending China top flight champions Guangzhou Evergrande at the Qinhuangdao Olympic Sports Center Stadium on Sep. 10.

After Henan forward Chen Hao just scored the lone goal of the contest, Gervinho lost possession of the ball with less than 10 minutes left before full time in their match against the Red Devils, which ended with Yang falling on the pitch with the ball settling in between his legs.
The former Roma striker tried to reclaim the ball "with a couple of stamp looking kicks" that appeared to have hit Yang's private parts as the Chinese midfielder screamed in pain, the Mirror reported.
Referee Zhao Zhizhi saw what happened and quickly gathered with his linesman. He then blew his whistle raising a red card, which meant Gervinho is sent off with the Samba Kings trailing by a point, 0-1, late in the game.
Hebei eventually lost the game, 1-0, as the team was not the same after having a one-man disadvantage.
Although with close inspection the kick to the groin looks unintentional on Gervinho's part, as per Daily Mail Online, he will still have to endure the consequences of his instinctive action while his team's performance continues to deteriorate as the China top flight season slowly winds down to a close.
Gervinho joined Hebei China Fortune last January from Italian Serie A club AS Roma, where he played the prior three seasons, for an initial reported transfer fee of €18 million. He had been struggling with injuries in China's first division competitions this term, which prevented him from making a significant impact with the squad.
Just a few games after his return from injury, the said incident then happened and he is now set to receive a one-game ban at the least.
