Chinese smartphone maker Gionee has announced that its latest device - the Gionee Marathon M5 Plus smartphone - has received a permanent price drop of Rs 5,000 (approximately $74.65) in India. The smartphone is currently priced at Rs 21,999 (around $328.46) in the country.

The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus was initially launched in China last year. It was priced around 2693.18 Yuan (approximately Rs. 26,999 / $403.12) at the time it was unveiled in the country. This price cut was announced by Arvind R Vohra, CEO of Gionee India. According to Vohra, the company is thrilled to bring the Marathon M5 Plus smartphone to India.

The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus is a perfect reflection of a beautifully crafted powerhouse, Vohra added. He also emphasized during that the company's main goal is to make the life of its consumers stress-free by providing them an efficient device with powerful battery.

The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus smartphone features a 2.5D 6-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) AMOLED display screen with Gorilla Glass protection on top of it. Under the hood, the device is powered by an octa-core 64-bit MediaTek MT6753 processor clocked at a speed of 1.3 GHz. It has 3GB of RAM onboard and a built-in 64GB internal memory storage, which can be expanded via a MicroSD card slot.

The Gionee Marathon M5 Plus runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system out of the box, coupled with Gionee's customized Amigo 3.1 user interface laid on top. The device is fueled by a massive 5,020mAh capacity battery inside, which according to Gionee, can last up to 53 hours of talk time and 829 hours on standby.
