Indonesia Executes 8 Drug Smugglers By Firing Squad, Spares Filipina At Last Minute

Indonesia stood by its stand that drug smugglers don't deserve to live. At 12:25 a.m. of Wednesday, it executed by firing squad eight convicted drug smugglers, including Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran of Australia.

Indonesia is postponing for half a month any executions of foreigners in its death row, in line with the system of the Attorney General's Office that carry out the death sentences in batches, all at once, instead of individual executions.

Bali Nine's ringleader Andrew Chan reportedly asked his girlfriend named Febyanti Herwila to marry him and now they are engaged despite him being on death row and the recent announcement that the execution will push through after his plea for clemency was rejected.

Two Australian drug smuggling convicts of the Bali Nine were taken away from their Bali prison cells on Wednesday and brought to the island of Nusakambangan where they will be executed through firing squad.
