The ruling of the international Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in the case filed by the Philippines regarding China's territorial claims in the South China Sea will test Beijing's commitment to the rule of law, according to a high-ranking Washington official.

China has accused the American government on Friday of supporting the Philippines in an ongoing South China Sea arbitration in the Hague. Beijing's reaction was prompted by the comment of American State Undersecretary Daniel Russel that both claimants should respect and follow the decision of the arbitration body.
