Obama Administration Calls China 'Outlier' for Blocking India’s NSG Bid

The outgoing Obama administration has signalled out China for stopping India’s entry in the coveted Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG) last year, summing up the communist giant’s hindering approach with a critical word “outlier.”

Ahead of this week's Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG) meeting in Vienna, China on Monday said that its stand on India's bid for membership to the elite nuclear club remains unchanged. This means that Beijing will reiterate its earlier position that New Delhi must sign the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to gain entry into the coveted nuclear club.

Days after Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar made a secret two-day visit to China to seek its support for the Nuclear Suppliers' Group (NSG) membership, India's Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, said she's hopeful of securing Beijing's backing over its entry into the elite group.

China is reportedly leading the opposition to stop United States and other major powers from including India into the 48-member Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG), which would allow India to access nuclear technology from NSG members.
