The U.S. is stepping up security around shopping malls, especially Minnesota's Mall of America, after Somali-based al Shabaab militants called for attacks on retail outlets in Minnesota, Canada and Britain.

The Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota was the latest shopping center hit by anti-police protest over the death of unarmed black men Michael Brown and Eric Garner in the hands of white cops. Between 2,000 and 3,000 people gathered at the mall's rotunda on Saturday as part of the national day of protest organized by the group Black Lives Matter Minneapolis.

The nation's largest mall, Bloomington's Mall of America near Minneapolis-St. Paul, Tuesday was embarking on a mission to bring more Chinese shoppers to the venue's seemingly endless corridors and 520 shops.
