China Ties with United States for Top Supercomputers Numbers

China and United States are tied at the top spot for the numbers of supercomputers with 171 systems each. However, China leads the pack as two of its supercomputers are at the top of the rankings. China's Sunway TaihuLight holds the first position with its 93 petaflops while the second spot is held by Tianhe-2 with 34 petaflops specification.

The latest Top500 ranking released on Tuesday, Nov. 17 reveals that China still has the world's most powerful supercomputer. The report also revealed that the number of supercomputers in China nearly tripled within a span of just seven months.
