There is a rumor that Nokia is working on a new smartphone. The rumor started when an alleged mid-range Nokia smartphone appeared on a benchmarking site, fueling speculations that the company is reviving its deteriorating business.

Nokia has been focusing on the Internet of Things market since the fall of its smartphone division. However, loyal Nokia fans can get their hands on a Nokia smartphone through a little-known firm named HMD from Finland. HMD successfully acquired a license from Nokia, along with $500 million in operational capital, to design, create, and sell Nokia-branded smartphones.

According to ZDNet, the licensing deal between Nokia and HMD was signed in April, but HDM is yet to launch or even confirm that it is working on its first smartphone. This has led many Nokia fans to believe that HDM might be working on a major device launch, hence the utter secrecy.

Rumors have been circulating in the tech community that two smartphones are currently in the works and that they are aimed towards the high-end market. If the recently leaked benchmark result from the benchmarking website, GeekBench, holds any truth to it, HDM might be working on three smartphones.

The mystery smartphone that surfaced on GeekBench bore the codename Nokia D1C. The phone runs on the Android 7.0 Nougat and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset with 3GB of RAM.
