Mobile phone manufacturer Motorola announced Saturday its next-generation smartphone, the Moto X, and its Bluetooth earpiece, the Moto Hint, will be available for preorders on Sept. 16.

In addition to an off-contract Moto X with an unlocked SIM card for US$500, the Illinois-based company will also offer an AT&T model with US$100 carrier subsidized price.

The Hint, the company's wireless earbud capable of remotely controlling a smartphone, will be offered for $150. The phone manufacturer's Turbo Charger, which can fully charge the company's smartphones in 15 minutes, can be preodered for US$35.

Motorola said its Moto 360 Android Wear smartwatch will be available on the same day as the preorders, but only in limited numbers.

The new Moto X received a new case and upgrades and will be offered at a lower price than its rivals in support of Motorola's plan to sell devices that are on par with the competition but cheaper.

When the smartphone was launched, it went for US$580 without a contract with a mobile service provider or US$200 subsidized.

The Motorola Moto X, the company's flagship smartphone, sports a 5.2-inch active-matrix organic LED display that has a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a pixel density of 423 pixels per square inch.

It's equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with a 2.5 gigahertz quadcore CPU; an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2 GB of random access memory. It also has a 2,300mAh battery and a 13 megapixel main camera with dual-LED rind flash capable of taking 4K videos.

The Moto X, which has no expandable memory slot, comes in 16 GB or 32 GB models. It runs on Android's latest released version of its operating system, KitKat 4.4.4.
