Motorola has launched "Moto Hint," a Bluetooth earbud that's, well, smart.

Moto Hint lets a user speak voice commands to a paired tablet or smartphone, while its third-party apps responds with Google Now, Google's digital personal assistant.

The Bluetooth earbud is intended to fit snugly and be concealed in the average ear. It's capable of being connected to Android tablets and smartphones running version 4.3 and up.

To use the earbud, which has no buttons on its face, a user either taps the touch capacitive device or simply says "listen up Moto Hint," He then asks the Hint to do his bidding.

The user can request the "earable," a term used to describe the device, to call a contact, send a text message or search for information using Google Now. All information is relayed to the ear piece by the paired device.

Queries one can ask include the weather for the day, important events on the smartphone's calendar or any information accessible on the Internet.

Navigation can potentially be made easier with the voice commands. Voice commands will allow a user to find directions while steering a vehicle without the need to view the phone or touch its screen.

Moto Hint informs the wearer of the route the user should follow while driving. If the user is walking or riding a bicycle, he need only change the mode of transportation on the paired device.

With Moto X, the device can also be used to dictate commands for third-party programs such as "post to Twitter."

The Moto Hint, which comes with a charger that also functions as a carrying case, will be made available in the United States in the fall and retail for US$149.
