The Boston Celtics are reportedly targeting New Orleans Pelicans' Anthony Davis before this season's February trade deadline as the club continues its search for a superstar.

Boston has been mentioned in lots of trade rumors even after they acquired All-Star center Al Horford in free-agency during the summer as the team has been open about their desire to have a legitimate superstar to lead them in the future.

Names like DeMarcus Cousins, Jimmy Butler, Paul George, Chris Paul, and Blake Griffin have been linked to the club in the summer as well as those of second-tier stars Greg Monroe, Rudy Gay, Paul Millsap, Jahlil Okafor, Gordon Hayward, and JR Smith. However, no deals have happened so far.

Right now, the Celtics are short on players as starters Horford and Jae Crowder are still out with separate injuries. The team has played all of their 11 games so far with at least one starter sidelined by an injury to settle at the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference standings with a 6-5 record.

Reports are out that the two are still not available in Friday's game against the Golden State Warriors as team officials do not want to prematurely activate them and risk further harm.

CSN New England reported that Boston is only interested in trading for "potential game changers" and Davis is said to be one of their primary targets at the moment.

The report said that the only way the Celtics could acquire Davis is if the three-time All-Star "wants out" of New Orleans, which is not impossible considering the Pelicans' current status and the bleak future that it is predicted to have.

Davis is in his fifth season with the Pelicans and he has only been in the playoffs once, a first-round loss to the Golden State Warriors in 2015. There are rumors that Davis wants to avoid the same future that Cousins is having in Sacramento, which is why he is expected to request to be traded soon.

Fansided indicated that Davis is in the Celtics' "crosshairs between now and February" as the two sides could potentially solve each one's ongoing issues.

Davis can provide Boston the superstar it wants while the Celtics will form a Big Three of Davis, Horford, and Isaiah Thomas, which could potentially rival Eastern Conference heavyweights Cleveland Cavaliers and Toronto Raptors.
