Trade rumors involving the Spurs' LaMarcus Aldridge have not stopped as latest speculations have emerged that the Los Angeles Lakers could target the All-Star power forward before the trade deadline in February.

The Lakers is a surprise team this season as rookie head coach Luke Walton was able to lead the young squad to a 7-5 start, enough for fifth place in the Western Conference standings. The team is seen by analysts as a potential postseason qualifier, but many have suggested that they would need to add a veteran scorer to "become a serious threat" in the West.

Morning News USA reported that Aldridge has become one of the Lakers' primary targets in midseason because of their current needs.

Fansided supported the hypothetical move, saying that it is "reasonable for a team without a proven star like the Lakers to consider a potential deal" involving Aldridge.

The Lakers have tried to sign Aldridge twice before, but the 10-year pro had rejected the club's offer both times. This means that the Hollywood squad is really keen on acquiring Aldridge's services, but for some reason, the former Texas standout could not accept a deal coming from one of the NBA's most illustrious franchises.

Now that Kobe Bryant is retired, Aldridge is said to be sure that he will become the main man in LA if he indeed decides to join the Lakers in the future.

Last month, rumors went out that Aldridge is unhappy about his secondary role in the Spurs' squad, who has Kawhi Leonard as the focal point right now. Aldridge's averages have slightly dropped to 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds when he arrived in San Antonio last season from 23.4 points and 10.2 boards during his last year in Portland.

The downward trend continues this season as the 31-year-old big man is currently producing 17.8 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in 11 games this season.

However, some analysts believe that trading for Aldridge does not make sense for the Lakers at this time because they already have a young nucleus of Julius Randle, D'Angelo Russell, and Jordan Clarkson who could grow together as contenders of the future.

Adding a veteran like Aldridge would require for them to let go of one or two of the said trio. Not only that, Aldridge may already be too old when the remaining Lakers young star has already fully developed.
