In May, Google said that the company is planning to make HTML5 the default tool in its Chrome Internet browser instead of Flash. Google is staying true to its plan with the latest of Chrome 55 update, which completes the transition from Flash to HTML5.

The latest version of Chrome now defaults to HTML5, with the exception of some websites that uses Flash-only or it is one of the top 10 sites on the web. For every website, the new Chrome version will ask users to enable Flash if it is the first time that they visit it, according to Mac Rumors.

The decision to make HTML5 the default tool in Chrome has been long anticipated by many users and tech analysts. With the release of Chrome 53 in September, Google started phasing out support for some Flash contents on the web, as well as blocking analytics tools and background elements that use Flash. With Chrome 54, Google rolled out a new YouTube code that forced that website's Flash player to switch to HTML5.

For Mac users, the new Chrome 22.0.2883.75 contains several fixes and improvements. The new update brings in patches for 26 vulnerabilities pointed out by external researchers through Google's bug bounty program. Another 10 security flaws were discovered and fixed by Google's internal team.

The new Chrome 55 update also includes the CSS automatic hyphenation, which is expected to help with how text blocks look as well as line wrapping, according to Engadget. For the Android platform, the new version of Chrome will bring new download features that allow them to save webpages and access them even without internet connection.
