CES 2017: New HP Spectre x360 Trades Thickness for More Battery Life

While most laptop makers tend to design their new products as thinly as possible, HP went the other way around and decided to design its new Spectre x360 a tad thicker. This design decision might put some potential buyer off, but HP did it to make room for a bigger battery pack that will add up to three hours of power.

The new 15.6-inch HP Spectre x360 made its debut at the 2017 Consumer Electronics Show on Tuesday. Compared with the previous Spectre x360 model, the thickness gain is somewhat minimal and barely noticeable. Although the new Spectre x360 is 1.9 mm thicker than the previous model, HP claimed that its new battery pack is now 23 percent larger in exchange.

According to The Verge, the decision to include a bigger battery pack for the new Spectre x360 is part of HP's effort to compensate on some of the laptop's new upgrades. The new laptop will have a 15.6-inch display with 4K resolution and that requires a lot of battery power. It is estimated that the new Spectre x360 can operate up to 12 hours and 45 minutes before it needs to charge again.

According to PC World, the high-end model of the Spectre x360 now includes a seventh-generation Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of memory, an Nvidia GeForce 940MX GPU, and 1TB SSD. The laptop is expected to hit the market on Feb. 26 and will carry a price tag of $1,278 for the entry level model.
