While the iPhone 6 is basking in all of the world's attention, the Apple iPads are keeping a low profile.

After the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch broke pre-order records, it's finally time for the Apple tablets to shine. A new leak shows the next Apple iPad Air 2 or iPad 6's protective rear cover with a new opening at the side of the camera vent. The small opening near the camera could be a holder for units like an LED flash or laser focus.

Meanwhile, the iPad Mini 3 release date is set for October. Ming-chi Kuo of KGI Securities, however, said the launch could be a lot earlier than expected.

He said he previously thought that the new iPad Mini version won't be released in 2014 but changed his mind and now believes Apple will unveil an upgraded model with a similar form factor.

Based on leak reports, the iPad Mini will sport a 7.9-inch display with a Retina display. There will be an anti-reflection provision to avoid sunlight issues.

The iPad mini 3 is said to have a thinner profile with a gold variant similar to iPhone color palettes. It's also said to feature an 8 megapixel rear camera.

The iPad Air had a new, radical design and people speculate the iPad Air 2 will have the same shape especially since Apple isn't known for bringing significant changes in shapes.

Notably, the Apple iPad's protective rear cover businesses are ubiquitous in China and iPad leaks in the past came from this country. This is why Chinese manufacturers have the answer to exact configurations and dimensions of the upcoming iPad Mini 3 and iPad Air 2.
