Sony has released the highly anticipated Android 4.4.4 KitKat for various devices including the Xperia ZL, Xperia Z, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z. The Sony Mobile global PR team confirmed the rollout through a Twitter post, saying Android 4.4.4 KitKat rolls for #Xperia Z, ZR, ZL and Tablet Z, bringing fixes and improvements on WiFi, battery and email and more.

Sony hasn't issued a detailed changelog or schedule of the Android 4.4.4 release and access may depend on region and network provider. According to the Xperia Blog however, the update reportedly began rolling out to Xperia Tablet Z LTE verion (SGP321) on Vodafone in Europe. The Xperia Blog calls it firmware 10.5.1.A.0.283.

Sony started the Android 4.4 KitKat roll out in May and it has been working for Xperia ZR, Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet Z and Xperia ZL since then. The Android 4.4 KitKat update has reportedly brought a redesigned Sony native app portfolio.

The KitKat firmware enhanced the Smart Social Camera, Battery Stamina Mode, Messaging and Email. Before the IFA 2014 event, the confirmed upcoming devices are the Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. Sony also confirmed two upcoming wearables such as the SmartWatch 3 and the SmartBand Talk.

The Android 4.4.4 KitKat updates are available in selected regions only and users need to wait for their network providers' official announcements. According to reports, regions that have received the update aside from Europe are Thailand and the Middle East. Users who got the firmware are said to have reported an overall smooth experience.
