Apple is continuing the tradition of two hardware events per year, both in the second half of the year. Re/Code has revealed the second event will happen on October 16, focused on iPads and OS X products.

October 16 is a few days later than last year's iPad event. Last year, Apple announced the iPad Air, iPad Mini with Retina Display and the revamped Mac Pro. This year, we expect small iterations to the iPad Air and Mini, along with new iMac with Retina Display models and OS X Yosemite.
Apple will not use the Flint Center venue in Cupertino to announce the iPads, instead looking for a smaller location in downtown San Francisco. The Flint Center has only been used for two events, the original Mac launch and the iPhone 6, 6 Plus and Apple Watch announcement.
October 16 will give Apple a good amount of time to prepare for the holiday season rush, where iPhones and iPads normally sell in the tens of millions. It doesn't look like Apple will add a new range of iPads this year. There were earlier rumors of an iPad Pro, but nothing has come up in months.
OS X Yosemite has been in beta for a few months now, the new update to their desktop OS brings a new visual palette, a flatter design aesthetic, alongside a new app, Handoff, for iOS users, who want to continue their work on OS X.
The iMac with Retina Display might be one of Apple's worst kept secrets this year, alongside the design of the iPhone 6. It is extremely likely Apple will announce the new panels at the event on October 16. We are unsure if Apple will announce any new MacBook Air or Pro iterations this year.
Apple looks to be finished with iPods and the Apple TV does not appear to be on the topic list for 2014. We might see some more previews of the Apple Watch, slated for early 2015 release.
