iPad Air 2 leak: Touch ID, Gold Color and no 16GB option

iPad Air 2 leaks

Apple is preparing to announce the iPad Air 2, iPad Mini successor, iMac and OS X Yosemite at their event on October 16. Not much has been leaked about the new iPad Air 2, but thanks to The Michael Report, we have got all the information we need to know.

The new iPad Air 2 will reportedly be lighter and 0.5mm thinner than the predecessor, another feat for Apple in the size department. To make the iPad Air 2 thinner, Apple has had to remove the vibrate/mute button on the side of the tablet and shrink the size of the volume controls.

Another small design tweak on the iPad Air 2 will remove one-row of the speaker grills on the bottom of the tablet. This is the same as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The iPad Air 2 will come with the gold option, which has been available on the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6.

Internally, the iPad Air 2 will feature the new A8 chipset, with faster CPU and GPU performance. RAM will be doubled on the new iPad, making for a much smoother experience on iOS8. The M8 motion-processor should also be added onto the new iPad Air 2.

The home button will now feature Touch ID, the fingerprint sensor. If Apple adds NFC to the iPad Air 2, it might be possible to make payments through the iPad, via Apple Pay. On the rear camera, Apple will upgrade it from a 5MP to 8MP shooter.

Apple is looking to remove 16GB on the iPad Air 2, offering 32, 64 and 128GB options. This is interesting, considering with the iPhone 6 customers can choose between 16, 64 and 128GB options, making it more likely customers will choose 64 or 128GB.

We still haven't heard anything on the new iPad Mini. The new iMacs should have a Retina Display added and some higher performance. No word on if we will see MacBooks or Apple TV at the event on October 16.
