Apple stores Replacing Bent iPhone 6 Plus Units

BendGate iPhone 6 Plus

The #BendGate topic continues to rack up speed, as more people manage to bend their iPhone 6 Plus, either through direct pulling or the smartphone periodically bending in their pocket.

It looks like Apple Stores have been notified of what to do in this situation, with a Reddit post revealing the staff were quick to offer a replacement, using the EFFA (Early Field Failure Analysis) to take back the old phone for testing.

The post does not reveal what questions the Apple representative asked before taking the phone back. It is a certainty that Apple won't offer replacements to those that purposefully bent the phone, as seen on some videos.

It is surprising to see two iPhone 6 Plus units both defunct after two weeks of regular use. Apple said only nine complaints had been handed in during the first two weeks, but this makes it seem like a 80 percent chance of failure, depending on if you put the iPhone 6 Plus in your pocket.

The light and thin aluminum shell holding the iPhone 6 Plus together does not have a magnesium brace on the back, making it much easier to bend than most phones. The iPhone 6 has the same structure, but due to the smaller size it does not bend easily.

This is the problem with larger devices, if the structure is not better than that of four-inch devices, it will be much easier to bend. Apple might have already fixed the problems on the iPhone 6 Plus, but there might be thousands of problematic units out right now.

The iPhone 6 Plus is apparently extremely popular in China, with a 50/50 split on iPhone 6 to iPhone 6 Plus pre-orders in the region. If Apple doesn't fix the issue before the launch on October 17, there could be major problems replacing all of the defunct units.
