Multinational telecom company AT&T, Inc. said it's partnering with e-commerce giant Amazon.com, Inc. to integrate its NetBond service, a virtual networking technology, with Amazon Web Services (AWS).

The partnership between AT&T and Amazon will provide customers with new and secure on-demand connectivity to Amazon's cloud platform.

With NetBond, customers will be able to bypass the public Internet and access data and business applications stored in Amazon's web service platform. The approach reduces security risks associated with the Internet.

"If a customer is working with AT&T, the data that is moving back and forth between company employees and AWS is being transferred through a virtual private network in a secure, typically encrypted state," said Charles King, principal analyst at Pund-IT.

AT&T said its technology increases performance by as much as 50 percent and provides customers the best experience.

Research Vice President Melanie Posey of IDC said the integration between AT&T's Virtual Private Network or VPN with Amazon's leading platform will likely have an impact on enterprises and encourage adoption of cloud services.

"The addition of AWS broadens AT&T's already expansive NetBond ecosystem and will give customers highly secure, reliable, and on-demand connections to another key public cloud service provider." said Posey.
