Google plans to invest US$500 million in Magic Leap, Inc. for its new Cinematic Reality technology.

Magic Leap, a developer of human computing interfaces and software from Florida, said the investment will allow it to deliver what it calls a cinematic reality.

Reports claim venture capital company Andreessen Horowitz may also be one of the investors.

Last February, Magic Leap announced it raised US$50 million to develop its technology. The company has attracted growing interest from Silicon Valley and even Hollywood.

The new technology currently remains a secret. Rony Abovitz, President and CEO of Magic Leap, said the technology being developed will "be the most natural and human-friendly wearable computing interface in the world."

The company's website suggests it may be working on a new 3-D virtual reality experience far more advanced than current technology. One that's more realistic perhaps.

Earlier this year, Abovitz told the South Florida Business Journal the same old terms such as virtual or augmented reality are used to describe things that didn't necessarily live up to expectations.

"We have the term 'cinematic reality' because we are disassociated with those things," he said.

"When you see this, you will see that this is computing for the next 30 or 40 years. To go farther and deeper than we're going, you would be changing what it means to be human," he added.
