Apple's CEO Tim Cook has announced that its Apple Pay payment service will start on Monday, October 20 in the U.S.

After quite a few leaks on Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) Apple Pay launch date, CEO Tim Cook has revealed the payment service will start in the U.S. on Monday October 20.

Apple Pay has added a few new brands onto the service since the announcement on September 9. That being said, the overwhelming majority of retailers and brands that did not sign-up at launch still have no intentions of working with Apple Pay right now.

The payment service will allow iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users to buy things at stores using Touch ID and NFC contactless payment. Apple has developed a security system, to make sure verification is done without the cashier seeing your personal information.

Apple Pay also has an online version that allows users to pay with one-click on iOS8 and pay on the web through their Apple Pay account. This service will also be available on Monday - giving users the full version, for those who live in the U.S.

The Apple event, held earlier today, gave some insight into how well the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iOS8 were doing on the market. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sold more units in 30 days than Apple has ever sold within 30 days of launch, currently over 20 million units worldwide.

It is expected when the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is released in China, Apple will gain another 10 to 15 million sales. Apple will continue to move into new markets throughout the last few months of 2014.

iOS8 was a little less impressive. Apple announced just under 50 percent of all users were on iOS8. This is a lot lower than iOS7 when it first launched on iPhone last year, which quickly hit over 75 percent of the user base.

This is in part due to iOS8 being a hefty update for 16GB iPhone users, and in part due to the lackluster update and iOS8.1 breaking the iPhone. This has made some users think twice about updating their smartphone to the latest update.
