An innocent bystander was hit by a bullet in the arm courtesy of an argument between two other people. Another man went to San Francisco General Hospital with a gunshot wound he said occurred during the chaos. Another person was stabbed during an argument.

Officers, many responding in riot gear to some of the mayhem, also were injured by thrown bottles. Three officers were transported to local hospitals including one with severe cuts, said Police Sgt. Monica Macdonald.

The tale of the post-series tape also included 29 people arrested for public drunkenness, two on gun charges, three for aggravated assault and several more for outstanding warrants.

In taking to the city's streets, thousands of people, many clad in orange and black team colors, overwhelmed Valencia Street in the Mission District popping champagne while also popping off bottle rockets and fireworks.

The celebration became ever more heated as the night wore down with people flooding the streets, setting fires, vandalizing buildings and even overwhelming police cars with graffiti.

Next up for police and fans was a Friday, Halloween Eve victory parade through downtown San Francisco.

The last time the Giants won the series in 2012, the parade attracted hundreds of thousands of people. San Francisco officials appealed for calm and urged everybody to stay composed and not cause trouble.
