Facebook Adds New Tools To Clean Newsfeed Spam

(Photo : Facebook) Facebook has added new tools on the Newsfeed for users to block spam and things they do not want to see, pushing relevant content to the top of the page.
Facebook wants to give users more control over what they see and what they don't on the Newsfeed. Coming today, users will be able to change controls for pages, groups and people they follow.
After the influx of Facebook auto-play videos, news stories and "meme pages," Facebook users could mistake the social network for looking like the front-page of Reddit or 9Gag, instead of a place to engage with their friends and family.

The new changes want to give some control back to the user, even if Facebook is ultimately in charge of where a story will be placed on the Newsfeed. That said, if the user wants to only read news articles or friends and family, they are capable of deleting all other connections.
Facebook has also been working on Newsfeed advertisements, like Sponsored Posts and Videos, in order to generate more revenue. It appears these ads are more successful than the normal ads on the right side of the Newsfeed, and video advertising is extremely popular.
The most interesting change to Facebook, in terms of friends, is the follow button. Facebook implemented it sometime ago along with various other tags for friends, allowing more fan-pages to start as dedicated Facebook accounts.
On the new update, Facebook will allow people to quick unfollow, mute and remove friends, if they find their content annoying. This feature has previously been buried in the settings menu, making it a chore to remove inactive or spam accounts.
These new updates will come to desktop and mobile sometime today. The unfollow and mute buttons will be available within the next month. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg participated in an AMA earlier this week, where he hinted at more one-use services, allowing more breathing room for the Newsfeed on mobile.
