Google Fit Tops App Charts In China

Google Fit has had a rough start in the U.S. and Europe, alongside a handful of other big health projects launched this year; however, in China the app has blown up on the store.

Currently sitting atop the charts, China is Google Fit's largest market. Google launched the fitness and health app simultaneously in multiple regions, for maximum adoption at launch.

Google Fit tracks a wide range of health and fitness stats to track the user's progress Google utilizes the sensors built into Android smartphones to track information like blood sugar levels, heart-rate, steps taken and caloric intake.

This plethora of information apparently appeals to the Chinese audience. Google Fit debuted there at #24 in the charts, quickly shooting up to #1 on Nov. 1. The app has stayed at the top of the charts for the first third of the month, showing a growing interest.

Google Fit peaked at number 69 in the charts in the U.S., 38 in the U.K. and 292 in the Japanese charts. Other regions had similar mediocre results, making it even more curious why the Chinese market picked up the app.

The Google Fit Platform allows third-party app developers to connect with Google's app, allowing better integration with Android's hardware sensors. Xiaomi and Baidu have both expressed interest in smart home and fitness technologies for mobile.

Google Fit is available for free on Android. Apple recently released its own health service, named Health to integrate with third-party developers. FitBit, Jawbone and Nike also have platforms available to check health and fitness.
