Xiaomi's vice president of international Hugo Barra talked about Xiaomi's intentions when it comes to smartwatches, asking fans what they want from a smartwatch.
Xiaomi is the biggest smartphone provider in China and the third largest in the world. But in terms of smartwatch sales, the company is currently at zero sales.
However, this could in the next few months, as was hinted by vice president of international Hugo Barra, who asked the community what they would want from a smartwatch in a Facebook post.

Facebook is an interesting network for Barra to discuss new markets Xiaomi will enter, considering the social network is banned in China. Xiaomi has started entering other markets like Taiwan and India, to expand its reach.
In the video, Barra said the teams working at Xiaomi have experimented with different smartwatch designs, showing the company has an interest in developing a new wearable.
Right now, Xiaomi has no solid plans to develop a smartwatch, but will have a meeting in a few months to discuss the smartwatch idea. Engineers are most likely working on prototypes now, to interest the senior management at Xiaomi.
Xiaomi has a great influence on social media in China, with millions flocking online to preorder the Xiaomi Mi4 and Redmi. Having a good social grasp could make the Xiaomi smartwatch successful, especially if Xiaomi attracted some big name celebrities.
Apple is planning a big marketing rollout of the Apple Watch sometime in 2015. Xiaomi might be waiting to see what Apple does with the smartwatch before entering the market. Apple's first iteration in a new market tends to be groundbreaking in terms of functionality and design, the iPhone and iPad definitely changed the design of their respective markets.
