Chromebook Owners Will Receive 1TB Free Google Drive Storage

(Photo : Reuters) Google is offering a holiday treat to all Chromebook customers, now coming with 1TB of Google Drive storage.
Google is sweetening the deal for consumers purchasing a Chromebook by offering 1TB free of Google Drive storage.
This is not the first time cloud storage has been used to sweeten a deal. Samsung partnered with Dropbox to offer 10GB free on Galaxy devices, Google offers free storage on Android devices and Microsoft recently announced unlimited OneDrive storage for all Office 365 owners.

1TB of storage on Google Drive normally costs $9.99 per month. Google also offers 10TB, 20TB and 30TB at $99, $199 and $299 per month, respectively.
Google did not make it clear how long this 1TB of storage will last. The deal will end on Jan. 1, making it a holiday only deal. Chromebooks can be bought for as little as $199.
Given the limited onboard storage on Chromebooks, it is nice to see Google Drive storage at more than 15GB. This should allow users to store more than just a few documents.
Chromebooks have become big business in the education world, where Google is managing to turn Windows users into Chromebook users, thanks to the utility of the Chromebook and Chrome OS becoming an excellent alternative for education needs.
In the consumer market, however, Chromebooks continue to take less than 1 percent of the market share. The average cost of a PC is growing, with more customers building their own or buying Apple's MacBooks and iMacs.
Chromebooks sit in a weird market in-between tablet and laptop. The ergonomics of the computer look exactly like a normal laptop, but Chrome OS only runs web apps, making it rather useless for any professional.
Although the deal looks good, Google Drive storage is not that expensive and other offers like unlimited storage on OneDrive and Dropbox Pro might be more tempting, especially if a Chromebook is not a first choice.
