Apple Plans to Expand into Virtual Realty; May Create Oculus Rift-Like Headset

Apple could soon be expanding into the world of virtual reality, according to a report by 9to5Mac.

The news comes following a new job listing that was recently posted on Apple's official website looking for app engineers with experience in 3D graphics, as well as virtual and augmented reality.

The app engineer would be required to be able to build "high performance apps that integrate with Virtual Reality systems for prototyping and user testing," reports 9to5Mac.

Although the job listing didn't mention any specifics on what exactly Apple will be working on, it seems the tech company is indeed planning a potential expansion into the virtual reality industry.

Apple could simply have plans to develop apps or software for other companies like the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. But its possible Apple could even have plans in the works to soon create its own virtual reality hardware products and develop its own software

As seen below, Apple obtained a patent in September on a "goggle system for providing a personal media viewing experience" and released an image that looks awfully similar to the Oculus Rift's virtual reality headset.

Although it hasn't been confirmed, the new goggle system could be new virtual reality hardware and the newest Apple product to be introduced to consumers on a commercial level sometime in the future.

Several companies are making their way into the brand new virtual reality industry, and even social networking company Facebook chimed in as it acquired the Oculus Rift headset in July for $2 billion. It certainly makes sense that Apple would have plans to expand in the industry as well and even potentially implement its own virtual reality headset.
