The body of Ohio State University (OSU) football player Kosta Karageorge has recently been found in a dumpster near their campus after he went missing last week.

Columbus Police have just confirmed that they have found the body. Sergeant Rich Weiner reported that Karageorge apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The report stated that a woman and her son were digging through a dumpster on Sunday afternoon when they found the body at 6th Avenue and Cortland Avenue. When the police came to the scene, they also found a handgun.

People who last saw him said that he was last seen leaving his apartment on East 7th Avenue last Wednesday. He went out walking at two in the morning.

His body's location was found a tenth of a mile from the location of his apartment.

Karageorge's mother, Susan Karageorge, told the police that he had several concussions and a few episodes of confusion. She said that his concussions were confirmed when he sent an apologetic text message around one in the morning on Wednesday.

"I am sorry if I am an embarrassment," the text message read.

Sophia Karageorge, sister to the recently deceased football player, told The Columbus Dispatch that he was apparently upset and that roommates said he went for a walk dressed in all black; from his hat to his boots. She added that they were concerned that he may not have been himself at that time.

Wednesday night, Karageorge's parents filed a missing person's report that listed him as a 6-foot-5, 285 pound man who was bearded and bald.

Upon interviewing the team's physician, he said that he cannot comment on the medical care of student athletes. However, officials are confident in their medical procedures and policies for returning athletes' participation in sports following injuries or illnesses.

The Columbus Police are still continuing the investigation into the OSU football player's death. Karageorge was a former Buckeye wrestler who joined the football team in August.
