After 11 years of being the best-selling toy during Christmas, Barbie takes a step down to give way for "Frozen" princesses Anna and Elsa and a snowman called Olaf.
According to a survey conducted by the NRF (National Retail Federation) among 6,593 respondents, 20 percent of parents buying toys this Christmas for their children are going to get the "Frozen" sisters and their snowman. A little less than 17%, on the other hand, would still prefer to get Mattel's 50-year-old star.

Barbie fans should not be unhappy about this, though. The survey reflects that the 20 percent figure is actually spread out among several of the Disney movie's characters, while Barbie's 17 percent is all for herself. The survey from the NRF presents generic dolls coming in 3rd on the list at 10.7 percent; 5.2 percent for Monster High Dolls; and, 3.8 percent for American Girls.
The result, however, does not come as a surprise for most people anymore. Frozen has been, by far, the highest grossing animated Disney movie, which accumulated a total of $1.3 billion in box office worldwide. $400 million alone represents the U.S.
In 2016, Disney will give up its rights in producing its Frozen-based dolls solely to Mattel's rival company, Hasbro, including characters such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Cinderella. Over the years, Hasbro's consideration on girl's preferences has gone bigger in scope and magnitude as sales on this category rose to more or less 5 percent. Translated to a numerical value, this covers approximately $408 million increase for Hasbro.
Analysts say that the staying authority of Frozen dolls at the top is still a little uncertain. Being not only the best-selling Christmas toy for 11 years straight, but also the most famous toy of all time for 5 decades is not a joke. Barbie's power still radiates to most kids, but with reports of an upcoming "Frozen 2" in theaters soon, Mattel's influence may once again be defied.
