Samsung New Smart TVs Will Run Tizen OS

(Photo : Reuters) Samsung has announced all new smart TVs will feature the home-grown Tizen OS, dropping Google's own smart TV platform.
Samsung has announced that all future smart TVs will run the Tizen operating system, removing Google's own Android and Google TV services from future operations.
Tizen OS still lacks any core hardware to run on, and is only available on a handful of Samsung's smartwatches. The original Tizen OS smartphone has been delayed indefinitely, and the new Z1 has been delayed until 2015 in select launch markets.

Adding the platform to televisions is a smart way for Samsung to bring Tizen OS to thousands of customers, gaining valuable feedback before an actual launch on smartphone. It will also show scalability for Tizen OS, something app developers are keen to explore. If Tizen can run on a device as small as a smartwatch, and also as large as a 50-inch LCD TV, app developers will have an easy time porting the app.
Samsung is not the first company to port a mobile OS to TV. Last year, LG introduced a revamped version of WebOS (previously Palm OS) for its smart TVs, and will show WebOS 2.0 at CES 2015.
Samsung has a strong hold on the TV market, and it might not mean the end of Android and Google smart TVs, considering it makes so many models of TV. The main focus will be Tizen OS smart TVs from now on however, a big change for TV owners.
Tizen OS has a few thousand apps and Samsung will be porting some of its own services onto the smart TV platform. Samsung will start bringing Tizen OS to smart TVs in 2015, around the same time the Tizen Z1 launches in India and other select markets.
