Sony Claims Mobile Division Is Not Up For Sale

(Photo : Reuters) Sony's CEO has denied rumors its mobile division is up for sale.
Rumors of Sony's plans to sell both its mobile and TV division are unfounded, according to CEO Kaz Hirai.
The chief executive was visiting Mobile World Congress earlier this week and said Sony doesn't have any intention of selling its mobile division despite previous reports it was more than willing to offload it for the right price.

The rumors followed a lack of success in the mobile division in the past few years compared to South Korean rivals LG and Samsung. The Xperia brand doesn't have much appeal in the mobile market.
The Xperia Z1, Z2 and Z3 were all reviewed very highly but ultimately failed to make huge market gains. Sony had similar performance in the budget and mid-range market, putting them way behind the top 10 sellers globally.
There will be a major refocus by Sony, however, removing some of the devices currently on display and reducing the Xperia models on offer.
This means Sony might only launch one high-end Xperia device per year from now on. This clearly shows the six month plan doesn't work and that's why no other company has adopted it.
The Sony Xperia Z4 is likely to arrive in the next few months. While the smartphone will reportedly retain the full HD display from last year, it should also feature a Qualcomm 810 processor and 3 GB of RAM.
